The annual production of shoes in Mexico ranks eighth in the global market
Reports from the Mexican media show that the Mexican shoe industry produced 244 million pairs of shoes in 2012, ranking eighth in the global market. The top spots in the world are Asian countries and regions: China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Taiwan and South Korea. Of those made in Mexico, 65 percent were leather shoes, 30 percent were synthetic material shoes and cloth shoes accounted for 5 percent. Of the export footwear, 83.11% were shipped to the United States, 2.29% to Canada, 2.04% to Guatemala, 1.87% to Colombia (specialty stores) and Japan. In 2011, Mexico exported 2191 million pairs of shoes, which grew to 24 million in 2012, with a growth rate of 9.68%.
